Theres a lot of little things on the market today to help you check the wind like fuzzy you pull out and let float or a bottle with some powder. What I do is just take a old lure squeeze bottle in my cases I have a old dirt cover scent bottle and I just put some baking soda or baking flower. Then when I want to check the wind conditions I just put it out give alittle squeeze and a puff comes out and floats off with the wind.

I use the wind checkers that Hunters Specialties produces. I buy them in bulk to save money.

I sometimes take a tiny piece of leaf or bark and let it flutter down. Even a few feet of movement will tell you the direction. In the past at some of my old stand sites I would take a thumb tack with a long piece of thread attached and stick it into a horizontal limb. Worked great and usually lasted for a couple years.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

i have done the very same thing before as well Holla, great idea. also just tying a small piece of thread to the bottom limb of your bow will work as well. now, i just use the same as Jesse but i just re-fill them with baking soda instead of buying new bottles over and over!!! :cheers:Originally Posted by Big_Holla
Truth be told, this world is full of hunters with the ability to accomplish their hunting goals on their own. Yet the majority of hunters in this world have no knowledge of their true hunting abilities. Commitment and sacrifice are seen as something that is just out of reach or maybe not a choice. Failure is not an option to these hunters and they believe hunting success lies only in the kill. Should these hunters realize that they CAN commit, they CAN sacrifice and that failure is something that should be expected, they too will realize that they CAN do it on their own and they will experience success the way it should be experienced........ "...the deepest, most permanent features of all great moments outside are the names, faces, descriptions, and emotions. The antlers on the wall...well, they're just bones affixed to boards. But what they represent, however, is flesh and blood - fathers and sons, friends spending time with friends and the the seasons of life when the people we love were still with us. These old antlers on the wall...well, take a seat, my friend, and I'll tell you all about them." -Rev. Zeke Pipher
I have a 6 inch piece of cotton string, tied to my stabilizer, it is super thin, and I can see it by just a glance while I am on stand!! been using this for years!!
I use a lighter if the wind isnt to heavy the flame will point in the direction the way the winds going and heat my fingers and hands up if they get cold, and usaully a good bic lic will last all year
