Largemouth bass are one of Ohio’s most popular fish and can be caught in ponds, streams, rivers and nearly all inland lakes and reservoirs. They can be differentiated from the very similar smallmouth bass by looking at the mouth - they have a very large mouth that extends beyond the rear edge of the eye when it is closed. The back of mouth on the smallmouth and spotted bass does not extend passed the eye. As the water cools off following the hot Ohio summer, bass move into the shallow from deeper water, which can produce excellent bass fishing conditions in the fall.
