Let the wind be your friend, ok!

Have been working on best routes into and out of treestand locations. So here is what happened the other day. Wind was blowing out of the S,SW 5 mph. The treestand location is about 100 yards off corn field on back side of ridge point, before dropping down into creek bottom. This is almost the upper part-start of valley which creek feeds down. This valley is running more W,SW with both tops of valley the same elevation. I walked in with the wind at my back to cross creek and mark tree with GPS. Everything was fine until I walked out, the same general direction I came out maybe 50 yards more to the W,SW down into valley, half way up out of valley I got busted by two deer snorten to beat the band. I would guess 100 yard further down in the valley. After further review of topo map their is a slight draw I got in coming out and would act like a scent funnel for that valley with a S,SW wind.

Buy now your asking yourself why did he walk down wind into this are. Well last time I approached this area, which thank God,was late last year. I came in from corn field and got busted before getting to edge of woods.

So now, can I get in stand with same wind direction if I stay out of funnel area? How long can I stay in this stand, will have to see.

Learn the wind, learn the wind.

Without a map i cant really suggest the best route to enter and exit. I will say this, sometimes the long way is the best way. Some stands are impossible to hunt in the morning or evening..... I have several stand sites that are evening only, because of the way i have to enter.
