I think its been a while since, I have posted many trail camera pictures. I'll just keep updating this one throughout the rest of the year. I'll also post some of my old one from the previous year or two, since I can't remember whats been posted.

Haven't had many good ones this year, not sure what going on. Hopefully it starts to heat up.
This big ten I've been watching for years now. I call him stubbs.

It's been pretty good, only problem is that its a 3 1/2 hour drive so its tough to get down there.

Youth, I remember when you were worried about you having a chance at any GOOD bucks
and now look, you have some slammers on places you can hunt
great pic's by the way, glad to see more on the site

as for a 3.5 hr drive
yes that makes it harder to get away and get time in hunting, BUt I always found that a long drive can make a hunt more memorable when you do get one
I used to have a 7 hr drive to my place in Ohio, and looked forward to the hunts there every time
the fuel costs were killers, but I still enjoyed them hunts alot

and 7 hrs beat my 17 hr drives to MO, and them 36 hr drives to ND too LOL
BUt still them LONG trips made memories I will always have

hunting close to home is nice, but for me, its never the same as when I travel to a place I been HOPING to get to
hunting close to home I think I take for granted way more, and doesn't seem as special of a hunt, cause I can do them at will.

Guess it all comes down to what you like better and how you enjoy it.

Best of luck getting that BIG 10 too
he's a classic buck right there for sure!

Umm I have a place I can camp. I usually get a room, or I'll leave at 2:30 in the morning and hunt all day then come home. I've got two trips planned there though.

Yea mrbb, it totally consumes me now, everything I do revolves around hunting, shoot leagues now too. I'm up at the bow shop every day after working helping, learning. More so the preparation and the pictures I love the most. I love the trips when I can make them thats for sure. It's nice in the summer, I'll run my cameras, try food plots, camp out, cruise back roads in the evening watching tons of deer.

Although, I got the one picture I really wanted and was of the big ten, but other than that I haven't gotten anything this year, and I'm not sure whats going on. I've seen more deer running the back roads than ever before, just not in my spot. Still early though, starts to pick up around now.

I'm just happy, I have such good day light activity there. I've killed my last few deer mid day, and saw does at 2pm last three time I've checked cameras. I always have such a good feeling there, so I'm always so excited to get down there, the whole drive down isn't bad.

I was asking if you had a cabin and didn't have to get a room. Sounds like it is just some land. Did you buy the land or is it a lease? Getting a room all the time gets expensive and 3 1/2 hour one way trips are tough. Looks like a great place.

Gotta say I'm a lil, well a lot jealous. Without a doubt a nice piece of property. Thats a bummer about the drive but looks like the drive would be worth it. How many acres is it?

mrbb
10-21-2015, 02:14 PM
youth sounds like you got the hunting bug LOL
when I was your age I too was consumed with hunting, and all things that made up hunting
spent hrs and hrs in local shops shooting, every chance I got
the opened my own store to support my hobby even more
and all the hunts every yr all over
was a fun ride, good to be on if you ask me

You might want to look into building a small cabin down there, or a small pop up camper
as I know costs add up
when I did my Ohio hunts I tried my best to make them be 7-10 day long trips to help off set the ling drives, and up my odds the most on tagging out!

I rented a cabin, and ran me about 700+ per trip, and about that in gas
the hunting lic was always my cheapest part to hunting out of state LOL
But I am glad I took every trip I did
heck if anything I wish I did more!

OH yea, I'm at the bow shop every evening, even working some now. Get to go to the ATA show next year. Amazing how hunting brings you some of the best friends. Got pretty close to the three bow techs over the passed year, do a bunch of shooting and hunting together, some of my best friends already.

Its only 25 acres, but it's a prime location. Butts up to the 170acre farm that we have permission to gun hunt (Where our giant group goes for deer camp every year) I was just lucky enough my grandpa came across this gentleman 15 years ago and when he passed away, I built a real close relationship with the owners and do a lot of trips in the summer to help out. He had guys come to him last year trying to pay to hunt, but its been 15 years now of him telling people, that I'm the only one aloud to hunt. I'm just riding this awesome wave until it comes to an end, just hope it's not for a while.

I had planned on doing the whole pop up camper plan.

oh boy got a new big daddy!!! I'm so pumped, two weeks until I will be in Athens hunting, might go down for Halloween if time permits. This buck though is from somewhere local to me, going to be tough to hunt it, but I'm going to give it a shot.

Will say, I'm a big covert camera fan, but I went to cabelas the other weekend. They had these wildgames on sale for $40, so I figured why not. I'm pretty impressed, just curious to see how long it last.

I got a wildgames innovation cam or two, due to price, and to be honest they too impressed me as well, fast wake up time, and decent pic's and flash
I got just under 3 yrs out of first cam being out 24/7/365, when it just died for NO reason or lead up
I contacted wildgames and they just said send it in, which I did and a few days later they sent me a new camera NO questions asked

BUT They sent me a camera that was OLDER and less features than one I had, it was a cam from like 4 yrs earlier , out of production??
I wasn't so happy, emailed them saying SO< and they just sent me another cam of the same model I had, ALSO outdated, but it was a decent cam and got 3 yrs out of it

SO< I can say there customer service wasn't great but was very nice to get a new cam for free, when I know the one I had was WAY past warranty and they could have done NOTHING
I ended up with 2 free cam's
and this was this past summer too
the cam's they sent me were cam's from 2012-13 era
SO I gather they have a bunch of OLD cam's laying around they use for things like this LOL

But again, for the price I paid for them
I say a BIG thank you to them for making an effort other company's might not have done

and good luck with getting one of them bucks too

you might want to maybe try working out some agreement with that land owner too, for future deal, maybe a small rent to own if that is possible, all comes down to what the owner is willing to do and you can swing
prime land doesn't have to be a TON of acre's

My old spot in ohio was a patch of woods about 15 acres or so, and was awesome yr after yr, was just in the right spot
MAN I miss that place a LOT now, was the one hunt I looked forward to every fall,
but owner passed away and it got sold
things happen???

Well, I couldn't be any more bummed. Had planned on spending all weekend going after that buck. Got a call yesterday morning that he was hit by a truck and killed right by my spot. 176", just makes me sick.

I was thinking about trying something like that, last year I had him to the point he was talking about giving me the part of the land I hunt since its so hilly he can't do anything with it. Building a good relationship with the kids, the daughter even sent me a message me thanking me for everything and how nice it looks.

WOW.. that stinks about that buck getting hit by a car.! Thats always one of my fears. Specially up here in the Central/southern part of Maine. We have smaller tracks of land, and deer are in the road all the time.
Up in Northern Maine, is a different story, some deer up there have never seen a car. More likely they see skidders and other logging equipment.

youth that sucks, BUT think of tit this way, at least you know the story of WHAT happened to it
FAR too many times over my yrs a GOOD buck I was after and just went MIA< with me holding out all season HOPING< to see it
when it was already gone(most times poached)
SO< hunting a ghost can be a worse deal LOL
and don't forget, most times a when a BIG bucks leaves it core area a new dominant buck takes its place, as odds are he had the place HE wanted, and was the better place on that land to grow old like he was

SO, still BIG bucks down in that area
just watch and see what the cam';s show
the rut is coming!

YouthHunter

I've already had two different bucks, although both small. The one I"m not sure whats wrong with it, like a tall spike on one side, something tiny split on the other side, and his face just looks goofy. Also had pictures of two button buck fawns. I'll be in Athens 7 days from today, be home in about a 11, so hopefully I'll have some new pictures to post (run 4 cameras down there). Hopefully better, I'll have a success story and pictures.

well went for a walk today and checked one of the cams behind my place
been a little while
and NOT a single deer on cam??
I think this is the first time I haven't had a deer on cam in my life and been running cam since the 90's??
WOW< that's weird for me
all I got was a few fox coyote pic's and this mother and her cubs
who also was in my back yard , at my feeder
ONLY my feeder has been empty since end of Aug, as legally cannot feed here in hunting season

I have a TON of apples, piles of them in my yard and NOTHING is going near them the past few weeks
BUT I see I have two of my neighbors dogs running loose??
which I am Guessing MIGHT be why critters are NOT eating my apples??
first time in 30+ yrs, I had apples rotting in the yard
very ODDS
I see deer all the time right next to them just won't eat them??
OH well
date on one cam is wrong, so?

I love the bear, although be a little creepy living by them like that. I'm getting pretty pumped, couple more days and I'm out! I'm a little nervous as the weather is going to be pretty warm.

living with bears here is a very relaxed deal
they honestly don;'t bother you, unless your some moron that try's to bother them first, or get in between mom and cubs
and even then, she does her best to get cubs up a tree and then she too goes up

lots of warnings 99% of the time

Had a female here last night, haven't seen her in about 3+ months
I was out in my shed, and she and her 3 cubs were between me and my m house
BUT she is a old told local bear, about 16-18 yrs old, and she is used to me
I simply made her see me, with a little noise, and she came over to me, like a big dog would, NO threatening posture, or the likes
just kinda wanting to say hello
came up to me gave me a quick smell, and went back to doing what ever she was doing
and I too did the same, and we ignore each other more or less
I don't fear her, she doesn't fear me I guess
been knowing her for a LONG time and she I guess came to realize here in my yard, she isn't in any danger from me, or anyone else for that matter!

she finally came and ate some apples so did the cubs
funny, how I just wrote a reply saying how NOTHING was eating my apples, and just like that things changed LOL

been up close and personal with a TON of bears, and not a single bad experience to date
ONLY takes one to change it all, but, there honestly in rural area's(wilderness area bears are DIFFERENT ANIMALS)
in rural area's bears adapt to humans and tolerate us a LOT better than , we the public do them\ people fear what they don't know and always jump to worse case events!
just give them room and respect, let them know your there, and odds are you will NEVER have a issue with a bear!

That's still pretty wild, I couldn't imagine that. It would be real cool to watch em like that over the years though.

mrbb
11-04-2015, 09:07 PM
that's a cool part of bears is they tend to have a LOT longer lives than deer, I have several bears that have been here for over 15+ yrs now, and got to watch them grow up from cubs to some OLD bears now.
and its crazy how they can come around for yrs and yrs, and then go missing, for 3-4-5 yrs and show back up again
some have scars that just stand out otr let you know there a certian one, or even at times, they get captured and tagged, and wear ear tags, so you can 100% ID them
here in PA< if you contact the state and GIVE them a tag ID number, they will give you a history on that bear that they have
way cool at times
and they like to know a bear is still alove and where its at too, they LEARN from thsi info
BUT to be honest, MOST of the bears here DON"T have tags, maybe 10 % or less

and the state ran a bear trap 1/2 mile from me for about 5 yrs too LOL
due to folks know LOTS of bears live in my area
they did tag a bunch one yr, BUT never the one's that seem to come to my place LOL
