My name is Jeremy. I've been lurking here for about 2 years & finally joined.

I started bowhunting in December of last year. I didn't have the scouting done and missed the rut. Needless to say that I tasted tag stew and didn't like it.
I think I'm going to fill the freezer this year.

Hello Jeremy, And Welcome.

Last season was tough in SW Ohio. For me, as soon as the leaves fell the deer disapeared ( at least during daylight hours)

Oh, I saw a nice buck. My first time in a tree stand a 140ish 10 pointer walked out. I missed at 40 yards. I'm still kicking myself.

I saw a pair of young bucks locking antlers over my corn pile after legal hours. It was pretty cool.

Without scouting the property and missing the rut, I was lucky to see a deer.

The funny thing is that I saw more deer in my yard than on my corn pile.

Well seeing more deer in your yard than on the corn pile isn't odd
more and more deer only visit corn piles at night
they tend to be getting smarter on how hunters hunt them and learned going to corn piles in day time isn't smart
I'd recommend setting up away from the pile, on a better trail leading to it, and hope to catch one before it gets to the pile
Plus if your in a stand over corn, and deer do come in, and it gets to dark, you will be getting busted climbing down
and just teaching them deer your hunting them
being able to get in and out of a set without getting busted is to me a BIG part of killing deer from that set up
get busted a few times and many time s that set is a waste of time to hunt
