Ok so it was a nice day here decided to take a long walk and look for sheds
I was walking on some older coal mine lands, a local gun club owns
and I came across a TON of dead buck skulls, all with there racks cut off, and by a LOT, I mean in about an acre of land I found over 25 skulls, all bucks/antlers cut off the skulls!
Now this area was more than 150+ yrds from the nearest road or atv trail, and all seemed like last yrs
I was begining to think maybe a butcher shop, dumped them and some critter has been stock piling them up away from the dump site, but the fact there are no doe skulls, makes me rethink that.
in the last say 5 walks out on this property, I have now found close to 30+ buck skulls
and yes I took pic's of them all, and talked to the gun club and local game warden
I still find this very wierd, I mean I know I have bears and coyotes here, but what would carry just the skulls so far away into the woods??
and ain't really much food left on a head for them to waste teh time to carry them off!
it was in a rocky area, with lots of places for dens to me, but WOW, never in my life seen so many buck skulls so far from a road!, with most being 20 trds or so apart ?
Oh well, spent about 5 hrs looking for sheds and didn't find a one!

well I been doing a little tinking about all these skulls
and I now think maybe a taxidermist is dumping them , as that would explain why no doe heads
but still doesn't answer why or what is carring them into the area I am finding them , but??
part of the answer maybe!

Boy that is something to find that many in such a small area. If they are scattered and not in a pile then I would say something is moving them, unless they take a walk and one at a time toss it into the brush. That to me sounds a little more like a local poacher?? Just can't understand what someone would want a bunch of little racks for since you are not finding doe heads. Maybe they found a market to sell?? Maybe a taxidermist but if they are a legit taxi then you would think they'd dispose of the stuff in the landfill trash rather than risk getting caught dumping stuff like that.

well just to add where I found this big lot of them, was up a STEEP hill a good 150+ ft tall, with a few acres of flat land on top, and a huge deep old coal mine stripping hole on the other side
with a old coal mine road at the bottom of the hill, But the road is again over a 150 yrds of solid woods off the road, so, someone would NOT carry them to where they are, and all the heads are scattered about, maybe one or two 1-3 ft apart, rest being a 5-35 yrds apart, scattered in a very rough terrain area of pretty thick young saplings
so I have to believe some critter carried them to where I found them, as no one would go through this much trouble to dump them, way too much work, hell I was dogging to get to the top of the hill not carrying anything!(lots of deer bed on tops of these like hills, thus why I was going to look there)
which again , a taxidermist could have access to the old road, but none would carry through the woods and then up a hill, when to be honest, with so many old mines still open, they could just drive up to and dump down one??
why carry so far and up such a steep hill?
leaving me again, some critter collecting heads maybe??

only two I found had back bones attached, and had the rack cut off,??
and even maybe more odd, was I found many many jaw bones, all close together, but not really near a skull??
here are a few pic's of some of this?

yeah that was what I thouyght when I found them all, all the more so with where they were at, a hard place to get to, and strange for anything human or critter to be dragging them that far from a road and piling them up in one area
never found out why or who or what did it, but plan to go back to same area this spring and see if anymore show up or not?
the thungs you find while out in the woods??

You got that right. The odd things. Also I have seen bears drag deer carcasses 30-40 yards into the sun to eat them in the winter but thats it and it is usually only one deer and all of the body parts are accounted for.
