I'm shopping for a new t/d recurve. I want to walk into a store, physically put my hands on it and see how it feels, shoot it and make the purchase.

I like the looks of the shelf on the riser of the PSE Stalker and Mustang. It appears that they would handle a calf-hair side plate and a rug style rest, well. 45# bow draw weight is what I'm after...for 3D and possibly hunting.

I'm open to suggestions of other makes and models, along these lines. However, some production bows are known for stacking, at full draw and that's something I will avoid.

I've been out of traditional bows for a few years, but know what I want in one.

Thank you, Bowhunter57

...and the winner is PSE Stalker! I went to the Dundee, Mi., Cabelas and shot a few recurves. Both the Sage and Stalker were very smooth shooting, but they had the Stalker in 40#, so that's the one that came home with me.

All I need, now, is a dozen arrows and I'm in business!

Excellent choice Bowhunter57!! Wish I knew more about recurves and longbows to really appreciate what you purchased though. Our traditional hunting section isn't very productive like it used to be so maybe you could give us a hand by showing us how things are going with your new bow this year?! Thanks for posting up the pictures!!

Well, I HAD big plans for going traditional...until this morning. As I drew the bow for my first shot, I got slapped in the face with my own hand and I was standing there wondering what had happened. I looked down the bow to see the bottom limb cracked and delaminated. It's going back to Cabelas!

I have heard of a few of the PSE having that problem or having twists in the limbs. I shoot with a Shakespeare B1-Hunter Model 50# they were made in the late 1950's early 60's. It is a recurve and my primary bow. I have a molle self bow that I use for 3-4 shots and done it is around 70# and too much for me to draw more then a few times with no let off. I have been a trad guy since I was a kid. Tried the compound thing a couple times and it did not feel right. I would look for some of the used older take downs. The quality is there to last a lot longer then the PSE if you take care of the old ones they can be something you pass down.

gryghst1,
Thank you, for the invite to Rush Creek. I've shot at many of their 3D competitions and enjoyed the course. Great club!

What makes you think I need a "mentor"? What I need is a bow that doesn't break in half after a few dozen hunting weight arrows have been shot out of it. I guess I should've went back to Don Assenheimer and purchased another one of his custom recurves, instead of taking the cheap route. Oh well, lesson learned.

I'm back shooting my Martin Cheetah and enjoying the "pin point" accuracy that it produces. Perhaps I'll try some traditional archery another year.
