2013 rut? talking bout it already? YUP! haha anyways my dad and I are going back to ohio again this fall and he has to have his vacation in by jan 20 so I'm looking for your opinion on a "SAFE/GO TO DATE". We looked at alsheimers, and it's inconclusive, it says it's a weird year and the rut is supposed to be mid octoberish or late november. After reading this I figured I'd turn to the veterans (you guys) with your go to date for the rut in ohio.

On my King of Bucks calendar it shows Oct. 23-29, Nov. 7-13 and Nov. 22-28 as high activity for what that's worth. With a New Moon on Nov. 3 the week before or week after will be good.....after all....it's Ohio!! Of course the second full moon after the Autumn Equinox is November 17 which is often referred to as the start of the actual RUT. For me, I think it will be a little similar to last year and we will see rutting and chasing mid Oct. thru November. That full moon on Oct. 18 will fool a lot of does into going early I think.... :sifone:

My exact thought. I mostly hunt south central Ohio and southern Ohio and that is dead on. I always count on the last 10 days of October thru the first few days of November has always been good time for deer movement.

Do you think the fourth to eleventh will be too late? Or should we try the week of October 28th?

4-11th should be perfect, I saw rutting activity up till the 15th this year.

Good luck with trying to pin point it. I would have to say your at least in the right date frame. I saw much rut activity from Halloween until the day I smoked my 10 point, And that was on Nov 4rth. Its a crap shoot on hitting it perfect. Good Luck to you on your trip to Ohio!

It's usually hard to beat the first full week of november... but, it is so hard to actually pin point when it'll be on until it is... you just have to pick a time and go for it... any of the dates you are looking at could be great as long as the weather cooperates...

I always draw blood during the first full week of Nov.. My magic days are the 4 th and the 7th for some reason... I don't follow the predictions at all.. The first week of Znov they will be on their feet... Some years are better than others mostly depending on weather.. Save ur sweet spots to keep them fresh and sit all day and good things will happen.. Oh and always hunt the right wind

You can't pin point when it will happen. I do not follow what the experts say. I go by what I witness in the woods every year. Thing is if the rut does hit early say late October then Nov 4th week they could go on lockdown mode. If you are taking off work for a week IMO I would take the week before Nov 4th and focus on a pre rut hunt. I saw more bucks this year pre rut than rut time. If you do this then I would most definitely put a mock scrape or two.

Ugh I sucks picking a day, seems like in PA it's the first and second week of November. I think we may stick with the first week of November.

Stonegod - I'm holding you to that

You can't go wrong with those dates teej89. Always when I plan my full week of Ohio hunting I look at the first week. My buddy has to put in for his time off way in advance too so I look to see when the 5th. of November falls and figure it out from there. The 5th. has been an excellent day over the years for seeing big boys. Also, for me I usually can go back a quick weekend or two after that week too though. Of course this year I didn't have any vacation time to allow for that and work got crazy busy this past year.

Just reading all of these comments, I am in the same boat. Trying to figure dates out. I either go 1st through 11th or 13-20th. I am planning on the earlier of the two at this point. I get back home to Ohio every couple years to hunt and only got in for rut hunt 1x i bout 6-7 years so really excited about this year. I put in my leave this morning for the first week!

We are pretty much set on the first week of November for our week. This will give me many more opportunities on weekends through the rest of the month.

I'll have to chime in on this one after I see what the moons look like but you can't beat the first three weeks of november.

The moon is why I will be ther from Nov8 through the 17 hope to get it done then. I too have to put in vacation early. I think you would be good any time the first couple of weeks inNov with the new moon. Just my 2cents
