ManOfTheFall
10-01-2012, 10:56 AM
Well, as I was getting down I got busted by 2 doe. If I would have stayed in the stand until 10 like I said I was going to I may of had a shot at those doe's. I may get out tonight but not sure. Next time after today will probably be Thursday evening and Friday morning. Happy and safe hunting to all until next time.

ManOfTheFall
10-07-2012, 03:25 AM
I tried posting here my last couple hunts but it kept saying the sight was down. Well, it's back up now so you should be getting more live reports soon. Hopefully Monday evening!!!!!

ManOfTheFall
10-08-2012, 05:11 PM
I'm in one of my favorite stands. Conditions are perfect for it tonight. Unfortunately this will be my last update until I'm done hunting. Don't want to risk blowing it tonight.

Quick update. My buddy saw 1. I haven't seen any. But the magic hour is upon me now. Gotta go.

ManOfTheFall
10-08-2012, 09:48 PM
Sorry to keep you all waiting. I had a nice 100" 8 point walk by me at 6:45. He has a little kicker off his left G-2. I filmed him for a bit although it's not very good quality. Never posted video but I will give it a try. More coming tomorrow morning and evening. It's suppose to be pretty frosty in the morning.

ManOfTheFall
10-09-2012, 11:02 AM
This morning was a bust. The only deer I saw was on the drive in. It was a beauty of a 12 point. At least he didn't jump in front of my truck because he was right on the edge of the road. I will be back at it again this evening and Thursday evening. I will try and send live updates from the stand when I can.

My son and I hunted Sunday evening. We were not able to get to the stand location we wanted until about 5:00 and got busted by one doe that was in the bean field already. After that we saw a mom and good sized yearling about 6:15, another single doe around 6:45 and five turkeys before dark. Did not see any of the bucks I have on camera, still a pretty good night with my son.

ManOfTheFall
10-09-2012, 04:44 PM
Well guys, it's 4:44. According to every evening hunt I've had this year the next 2 hours will probably be pretty quiet. Then tha action will bbegi. Check back and see how it goes.

ManOfTheFall
10-09-2012, 06:14 PM
So far nothing but a bunch of chipmunks. But prime time is upon me. Check back in a bit.

ManOfTheFall
10-09-2012, 07:41 PM
Saw one running about 80 yards away but that was it. I had one blowing at me as I was walking out. Next time out probably won't be until Thursday evening or possibly Thursday morning if I can leave work early.

ManOfTheFall
10-10-2012, 12:37 AM
Tuesday morning and evening were pretty uneventful. I am going to try to leave work early Thursday morning. I'm hoping I can get off about 4:45am. It's suppose to be in the upper 20's where I am at. If I can get off early I will definitely be in a tree stand Thursday morning. Then I will sleep a couple hours and be right back at it Thursday evening. Good luck to everyone else!!!!!

ManOfTheFall
10-11-2012, 01:10 AM
It looks like I might get lucky and be able to get off work early this morning and make it to my stand in time. I'm hoping to nail a nice fat doe or one of the big boys of course. There is also a piebald do running around on our property that I wouldn't mind taking out. I will update the situation this morning. At the least I will be out this evening.

Big_Holla
10-11-2012, 07:41 AM
Good luck to you if you were able to get out this AM! We have a piebald doe running around too, only we decided she gets a pass for a while. Really cool to see that's for sure!

ManOfTheFall
10-11-2012, 05:00 PM
I got out in the morning but didn't get in the stand and settled in until 7:20. Not good. I saw alot of deer driving in but nothing on stand. I am in the stand now just waiting for 6:30 to roll around. Hopefully a nice big fat doe will grace my presence so I can get that first one down. Last year at this time I already had 2 doe and my buck down. Update in a bit.

ManOfTheFall
10-11-2012, 06:09 PM
Well guys. I just blew my first shot of the year. I just shot under a doe at about 27 yards. I just plain misjudged it. Hair and a little fat was on the arrow but no blood at all. But, it's prime time now. Maybe I will get a chance at redemption.

ManOfTheFall
10-12-2012, 12:43 AM
92329231I saw 3 more doe's at about 6:50 but they were all too far away. Here are a couple pics of the broadhead with the hair and fat on it.

10-13-2012, 01:27 AM
I am going to try and get off work at 5am and be out there in the morning. If not I will definitely be out there Saturday evening. Hopefully I will have some good updates for you all to follow. Both morning and evening!!!!!

ManOfTheFall
10-13-2012, 08:52 AM
I made it out this morning. I just had 2 doe walk past me just out of range. I have to get down a little early so hopefully something happens soon. I will be back out this evening though.

ManOfTheFall
10-13-2012, 04:56 PM
I'm in the stand again here on October 13th. It's much windier than what they said it would be. But, at least it's blowing in the right direction. I'll check back with you all in a bit.

ManOfTheFall
10-13-2012, 05:20 PM
One good thing about this wind is it's bringing in a frontal system. Maybe that will get them up on their feet and moving with plenty of daylight left.

ManOfTheFall
10-13-2012, 05:53 PM
Just had 3 does come by me but no shot. It's still early. Not quite 6 o'clock yet.

ManOfTheFall
10-15-2012, 05:59 AM
Nothing else Saturday night. I will be up in a tree stand her in a little bit though. It's Monday the 15th, 6am here. Check back in a bit for updates.

ManOfTheFall
10-15-2012, 06:48 AM
How easy is it to shoot without a release. I got to my spot and realized it's back home. I've never shot without it. Is it worth staying in the stand or will it entirely throw everything off?

BowGuy2
10-15-2012, 07:27 AM
I have some the same thing befor and decided to go ahead and sit and got home and shot like that and yah it throws ur shot off some ur anchor point is different and ur bow is sighted in using a release not ur fingers I would stay If I were u. If it makes u feel any better I have already been blown at by a few doe at my favorite stand so yah rough mornings all around

ManOfTheFall
10-15-2012, 07:32 AM
You shoot high or low?

BowGuy2
10-15-2012, 07:37 AM

I got down a little early. I didn't see a single deer. Although the bucks have been scraping this area really hard. I will be going to my other property tonight and my release will be with me. Check back this evening to see if I can get my first one down of the season.

ManOfTheFall
10-15-2012, 04:36 PM

ManOfTheFall
10-15-2012, 06:33 PM
Three more doe , a small buck and a giant out about 80 yards just went past. Maybe he will come back.

ManOfTheFall
10-15-2012, 08:36 PM
I was about to get down at 7:05 and I saw three more deer crossing the creek bed about 40 yards out. One was a 150" and the other two were like 110"-120". I had an open shot on the 150" at 40 yards but I just couldn't see my pins very good. I was bummed out. Tune in next time which will probably be Tuesday evening.

ManOfTheFall

ManOfTheFall
10-18-2012, 05:17 AM
I got the stand moved on the 17th. This is the stand where I have been seeing the 180" giant. I have seen him three times so far but have always been anywhere from 20-40 yards too far. I am going to put out some corn and sugar beets on Friday and hit that stand Monday evening. I can't wait. I will be hunting another stand on that same property this evening (18th). I am going to try and take out a doe if any comes close enough.

ManOfTheFall
10-18-2012, 04:33 PM
I'm in my stand this evening where the farmer said he has been seeing alot of does in the evening. So, hopefully tonight I can connect and put one in the freezer. Check back for updates.

ManOfTheFall
10-18-2012, 06:01 PM

10-19-2012, 02:42 AM
I was out this evening, the 18th and didn't see a thing. I had 2 others buddies hunting on the same property and they didn't see any either. Must be that October lull. Depending on the weather, I will either be out again Saturday morning or evening or both.

10-19-2012, 12:29 PM
I was out last night over a cut bean field. This is the first time Ive hunted this side of the field, but I've seen a two nice bucks come and go from that side. I set up using a buck decoy. At 5:30 I had a nice bodied 4 pt. come to the field and then to the decoy. He stayed back about 40 yards from the decoy, but right in front of me, but he got a pass. Nothing else until around 6:45. Had 2 does pop out on the other side of the field, directly across from me. They ended up working towards me, until around 7:30 they decided to check out my decoy. Had to wait them out before I could leave as it was not enough light to shoot by th time they got to me

ManOfTheFall
10-20-2012, 06:54 AM
On stand this morning, the 20th. Just waiting for first light.

ManOfTheFall
10-20-2012, 08:05 AM

ManOfTheFall
10-20-2012, 09:31 AM
I got down a little early cause I have a lunch date. On my way out I drew back on some turkeys 2 times. They were about 20 yards away but neither time I couldn't get a clear shot. I will be back at it Monday evening. My last night of work before my 23 day hunting vacation is Wednesday.

ManOfTheFall
10-21-2012, 02:33 AM
My next time out won't be until Monday evening. Hopefully with a fresh pile of corn and crushed sugar beets made by "The Crush" it will bring those does in. Then the big 180" that has been hanging with those does the first 3 weeks of the season won't be too far behind. Good luck to all!!!!!

ManOfTheFall
10-22-2012, 12:17 AM
This schedule isn't set in stone, but it looks like I will be hunting Monday and Tuesday evenings, Wednesday morning, Thursday evening, Friday morning, and Saturday morning and evening. Good luck to you all!!!!! Hopefully we start putting some nice one's down!!!!!

ManOfTheFall
10-22-2012, 04:08 PM
Just about to get into stand. I know it's warm but I think tonight I may get a good chance at a nice doe. I will be sitting in the stand I moved to get closer to that big boy I've been seeing. Also put corn and crushed sugar beets there. Stay tuned!!!!!

10-22-2012, 04:49 PM
Dang fox squirrel! He's eating the corn!

ManOfTheFall
10-22-2012, 05:33 PM
I've been here a little over an hour now so far and it's been just as I expected. Nothing but a bunch of little critters. Temps are dropping, sun is setting, hopefully the last half of the hunt I will have much better results. Check back for more updates.

ManOfTheFall
10-22-2012, 05:55 PM
Just had a button buck and a doe come by me but the doe didn't offer me any shots. Hopefully there will be more action to come. It's almost 6 oclock.

ManOfTheFall
10-22-2012, 07:56 PM
The doe came into about 18 yards but she gave me absolutely nothing. The button buck gave me multiple shots but of course I didn't want to shoot him. I didn't see any thing else the rest of the hunt. Tune back in tomorrow evening.

10-22-2012, 09:07 PM
If you dont kill the mom eventually she will push the button buck out and you wont ever benefit from letting him leave. So it wont hurt shooting the little guy.

If you dont kill the mom eventually she will push the button buck out and you wont ever benefit from letting him leave. So it wont hurt shooting the little guy.

I don't shoot the little guys because I want them to grow up and become big guys. I have been practicing QDM now for almost 10 years and have several nice shooter bucks on my property. This happened because I got past shooting everything that walked past me. I really wanted to shoot that doe be she never offered me a single shot.

ManOfTheFall
10-23-2012, 03:41 PM
I decided I'm not going out this evening. One, it's very warm and 2 I have a few things going on that I can't put off. So, check back with me tomorrow morning. I will be in a stand.

ManOfTheFall
10-24-2012, 08:52 AM

ManOfTheFall
10-24-2012, 11:25 AM
Last hour remained quiet. On my way home I saw a small 6 point chasing a doe through a field. It's getting close. Big cold front this weekend should get them moving more in daylight hopefully.

ManOfTheFall
10-25-2012, 02:52 AM

ManOfTheFall
10-28-2012, 12:39 AM
Better late than never. I had a button buck come in around 6. I was rattling and all of a sudden I heard steps coming at me fast. I thouhgt it may have been a buck. It was, a button buck. He milled around the area a bit then I heard a doe bleating somewhere behind me. They eventually left. About 6:30 I did some more rattling. Once again I heard the sound of a deer coming rather quickly. Again, I thought it surely must be a buck this time. It was, a button buck again. But wait, more foot steps. a buck? Yes, button buck again. Saw 6 deer overall. I could have popped those three button bucks fairly easily. They looked like adult does. They are starting to get some size on them. As slow as the season has been going it was pretty tempting to take one out.

10-28-2012, 05:52 AM
Way to hold off man of the fall you would have regretted shootin a button buck

Ok....Tenn. Here again...been after a big buck I named Clyde all yr.... This weekend waz youth riffle weekend here...yesterday morning couldnt get out due to sons playoff football game...this morning had a lone mature doe work her way in through some sapplings in front of us, sure enough Clyde was trailing her...igot excited..son got riffle ready, he wouldnt Come out of sapplings... Went into a small opening at 60yds...my son shot... Clyde didnt move, I look at son and say chamber another round... Time I look back, he is gone...he swears that he was right on him with the scope and hit him...iwent to where I thought he stood didnt see any emediate blood. If a deer gets hit with a 270 riffle would he stand there for a few secs before bolting? Is there a chance that I wouldnt find blood right at the spot he shot? He tells me he hit him...I guess im going to go back tommorow and walk A little to reassusre myself... Just dont know, I bow hunt never riffle. Whats your take?

Rdavis006
10-28-2012, 09:00 PM
Antlrz I would say you should have found hair and blood, if you didn't find either then I say the boy missed. Walk it out tomorrow if it makes you feel better. As far as being on him it possible but could have hit a limb branch or something throwing the trajectory off.

ManOfTheFall
11-03-2012, 04:44 PM
I was out this morning and it was afairly good morning even though I didn't get anything. I had a nice doe come in at 7:15, but it was too dark to shoot her and legal shooting light wasn't until 7:28. Then at 7:20 another deer came in behind the doe. It was that giant I had been seeing the first two weeks of the season. The doe bolted when he closed to 14 yards of my stand and he was broadside but again it was just too dark to shoot. I think if that doe wouldn't have bolted out of there in about 10 more minutes I would have had a giant on the ground. Then, behind me I had two really nice shooter bucks chasing a group of three doe's about 30-40 yards behind my stand. If those doe's would have just came out past my stand I would have been in business. After that the next 3 hours were quiet and I got down. I won't be able to get back out until Monday morning.

ManOfTheFall
11-04-2012, 03:26 PM
I am not a big fan of decoys, but tomorrow I will be taking out my Montana doe decoy and setting it up where these two shooter bucks I've been seeing has been running these does. I will be spraying her down with the special golden doe estrus and hopefully the big boys will make a bee line for her when I give a few bleats on the can call. If there is ever a time for a decoy, it is now.

ManOfTheFall
11-05-2012, 07:42 AM
So far this morning i have seen a young buck and 1 doe. No shooters yet. I'm about to do some rattling and grunting here now.

Unfortunately I forgot my phone at home. So, here is an update of this evening and what will be going on tomorrow. This evening I saw 2 small bucks. One was a 6 point and I think the other one was a 4 pointer. Hopefully tomorrow morning will be a little more exciting. There is a heavy freeze warning for the area so it should be nice and crunchy in the morning and I will be able to hear the big boys coming a long ways off.

11-06-2012, 12:57 PM
Well, I blew a chance at a real beast of a buck this morning. I have been saving my one stand for this week. I hit that stand this morning and it didn't disappoint but I blew it though. Just after legal shooting light I did a blind call with the can and hit the grunt tube a couple times. Immediately I heard movement behind me over my right shoulder. At first sight it looked like a 2 1/2 year old just inside his ears so I didn't get too excited. He then stepped into the clearing 15 yards behind my stand and I saw he was a true beast. His spread was only about 14" but his G 2's were about 12" long. His brow tines were like 8" and they angled in towards each other. I would estimate his bases were like 7"-8". This buck had some serious mass. He was a 10 pointer with a 3 inch kicker off his left G-2. He was broadside on my right side like 10 yards away with a wide open shot. This is where the problem began. I was strictly a crossbow hunter in the past. This tree is really set up pretty much for crossbow use. I even said to myself I should take my crossbow instead of my compound. I could not pull this shot off. I had to wait until he started walking again and draw on him. Then he angled to his right and walked away right behind a tree. I did have an opening at forty yards but I had to stand up. When I stood up there was a branch in my way and I still couldn't shoot. Eventually i had to just let him walk away. The one good thing about all this is he didn't spook at all. So, tomorrow morning I will be back out in the same stand with my good old Horton Legend.

It has been awhile since i posted on this thread. I will be going out this evening (Sat. Dec 29th) trying to put one down. I will try and post live updates again. That was fun. Once it gets to be prime time I may have to wait until the hunt is over though, lol. Tune in for live action this afternoon beginning around 3:30pm.

The last 1/2 hour didn't produce any deer. However I was encouraged by the fact that I saw 4 deer. Tune back in Monday afternoon as I will again attempt to fill a late season tag.

I will be heading out to a different spot in a little over an hour. I have seen some really big buck tracks in the snow in this area so hopefully maybe this big boy will come out in the daylight and give me a chance. check back for updates!!!!!

I didn't see anything the rest of Thursday evening. I was really shocked not to see anything after seeing this deer highway through these pines. Hopefully Friday evening will produce better luck. If it doesn't I may have to switch up and try hunting here in the morning which I very rarely ever do in the late season. Here is a pic from my stand.

It looks like I will continue the hunt in the morning. The shot appeared like it may have been a little high and it was also quartering to. I am going to let her lay overnight and hopefully I will recover in the morning. I will post updates tomorrow.
